Mpumalanga has the escarpment, Kruger, and some of SA's most dramatic pass roads.
Notable Routes
Long Tom Pass — Between Lydenburg and Sabie. Historic WWII pass road. Winding, beautiful, paved but worth including in any escarpment loop.
Kruger — S25 Lebombo Road — Eastern boundary of Kruger along the Lebombo Mountains. Corrugated but rewarding. Buffalo, lion, leopard territory.
Klaserie / Timbavati Private Reserve Tracks — If you have access, the tracks through these reserves adjacent to Kruger are exceptional.
Abel Erasmus Pass & JG Strijdom Tunnel — Old pass road is spectacular. The tunnel now takes most traffic — take the scenic old road.
Sudwala / Verlorenvallei Area — Farm roads and conservancy tracks in the escarpment valleys. Beautiful.
