The Eastern Cape is vastly underrated. Wild Coast, Karoo, Baviaanskloof, and Addo — this province has serious camping variety.
Top Spots
Addo Elephant National Park — 600+ elephants. Dense, charismatic. Main Rest Camp and Narina Tented Camp are both excellent. Book ahead.
Tsitsikamma National Park — Garden Route / Wild Coast boundary. Storms River Mouth campsite is iconic — right next to the sea and suspension bridge. Very popular.
Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve — World Heritage Site. 200km of rugged kloof. Self-sufficient camping only. Spectacular and remote.
Wild Coast — Mzamba / Coffee Bay / Hole in the Wall — Wild, off-grid camping on cliffs above the Indian Ocean. Bunny chow for breakfast. Check road conditions before going.
